No netbook, but soon talisman.

“The CPU module is ready. I had thought this would be the slowest part. We actually have all of the electronics done. The issue is the bottom case. In order to make the units fanless, the bottom of the case had to be made from metal instead of plastic. The first metal mold wasn’t as good a fit as we wanted so the bottom was remolded. I am told that on the outside, 20 September is the ship date.

I know it is frustrating but we are not trying to just push out cheap junk. This will be a remarkable prouct when completed.

We are selling preproduction units with fans but it is really better to get the production units now that they are so close to being out.”

Was Michael Mbarnes response to my latest mail, and i really hope that the computer will live up to my expectations, else i will commit suicide or something like that. From the start they said june, now its late september.

The Reaper sold out in a few hours after it was restocked, so there ain’t gonna be any reaper for me, but Talisman and Talisman Dungeon is soon ready to be shipped, i cannot wait until they are here!

My graphics card died a few days ago, and after going to the stores and getting to know that i would be forced to pay about 200$ for a new one, because it’s a darn good AGP card, and those are out of date by now. I found a better card for 40$ at a local geek =D It’s an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra AGP, and it’s working to perfection after i found out which driver it was that i needed, thanks to our wonderful wiki.
Too bad that suspend stopped working, and as I’m an avid user of that I’m quite unhappy. Hopefully the forum guys will be able to help me with that.

Still no netbook

Gaaah, there is still no sign of that my netbook have been shipped yet, the president of nohrtec told me that everything would be done the third week in august, too bad that half of the workdays in the third week of august already passed.
There is no sign that Talisman is back in stock either, i mailed them earlier and one guy said it would be back in stock the 13th, I fired off another mail now saying that was a week ago.

Tonight i slept 7 hours, just in case, because i didn’t want to be a zombie the first day of school. After seeing my schedule i have delayed my first nap to 15:30 and i slept very good today.

Slept

I’ve had a friend at my house for two nights now, so this will be a sleep report for two and a half day. The wonderful thing with my friend, is that the first time i told him about the everyman sleep schedule, last time he visited me, he jumped right on the track and slept the time that i did. So this time it was the same.

05 august; 11:00 didn’t sleep, slumbered a little

19:00 didn’t sleep, but slumbered

01-07:30 the phone died so we weren’t awakened=overslept

06 august; 11; still couldn’t sleep

19, still couldn’t sleep more than a little slumber

01-05; slept the core as i should. I let my friend sleep to 6 as he asked.

07 august; 11:00 still cannot sleep! -_-’ We were disturbed after 10 minutes by his parents that came to pick him up.

This isn’t exactly good, but i have definitely slept too much, and that’s why i cannot nap. I slept a fully 2 hours at the day the 4th, and have slept longer than 5 for many days. My family will go to my grandparents, and i will visit my friend for a few days. We will be alone in the house so we can at least get the food at the correct times (like not at 19:00). I won’t blog anything there.

Haven’t read anything in my python book, and nothing new on the Arch front, will probably start doing something when i get back.

I’m gonna buy the Gecko Edubook, a fanless netbook driven by AA-batteries, and it will come in a few weeks. They haven’t started shipping it yet, when it comes I’ll tell about my adventures of installing Arch on it.

Back from 10-day camp

The reason i haven’t written much for a long time is partly because i have been gone much, and partly because i am lazy =P  Yesterday i came home from a camp called “Efterläger” in swedish, and it basically means “After-camp”. The reason it’s called that is because it is the year after the confirmation, and you can go back to the estate where you were confirmed last year. Stiftsgarden in Rattvik is a wonderful place so i went back there, and together with 10 others i helped running the estate by working in the kitchen and such.

As the Gecko edubook’s final units ain’t ready yet, i didn’t have any computer to bring with me, and so i had to live without the internet, but the days were filled with activities so i didn’t really miss it. I did borrow my leaders laptop once, and after fixing up her windows installation a little i plugged in my USB-stick with puppylinux, i haven’t bothered to get larch on it, but i forgot the one of my 4 sticks that had my passwords so i couldn’t check my e-mail or log in anywhere. The internet connection sucked mayor time so after surfing a bit on Slashdot i gave up and did other things instead.

When i got home i ran “y -Syu”, y being a alias for yaourt, and installed the new kernel together with some other things. I’ll reboot later to start running that one, and hopefully there’ll be no errors, i haven’t really had any problems with updating ever, but i guess that one day they will come and punish me for procrastinating my backups.

I’ve made it through the first part of my python book, ‘Learning Python’, from O’reilly books and have now started reading about strings and dictionaries after coding some ‘Hello world/Arch is the best’ scripts.

I have been up for soon 5 hours now, i got up at 5 and have now started my second attempt at the Everyman sleep schedule, last try failed as i catched a cold. I’ll take 30 minute naps at 11 and 19 and sleep from 01 to 05. I bet that will give me at least some time to read my Python book.

Gonna go down and build a Dice Tower out of LEGO(R) bricks now, and play RISK star wars edition with my lilbro.
